My favorite one so far. Lots of great plot and character development. It also ended with a bit of a cliffhanger. Well done!

This series might just be one of my favourite book series out there. Higson really does have a creative mind, putting unspeakable situations into a whole story. This book is gory, detailed, sad and amusing all at the same time. This series is one I'd recommend to all who think they can handle the challenge.

The only reason I took .5 stars off is because, although still an amazing book, I feel that this might be my least favourite one from the series. It seems as if Higson took all of his last other-worldly ideas and shoved them all into one book for the sake of a story. Other than that, he still phrased all of these ideas and connected them in a nice way.

Shout out to whomever put amazingly detailed plot summaries of the first four books on Wikipedia, because it's apparently been a year between me reading the fifth book and this one. I wanted to have everything fresh since this series has so many threads, and if it's been awhile since you read The Fallen, definitely go back and refresh since this is a direct continuation of those plot points.

This book definitely felt a bit different from the others. We were told about a lot of action via 'flashbacks' a la story-time between some of our characters. It was an interesting choice, though I understood the need to get caught up quickly to get everything into place. It made some parts less intense than prior books, so this wasn't my absolute favorite of the series.

I breezed through Ella's parts
Spoilerand I was alternately interested and called bullshit when this sane sicko was helping her, until we realized Malik was the coin-flip of Paul - a teenager that was sort-of infected and now has awareness of sickos but was able to fight the parasite rather than give in and go crazy. Malik's story was heart-breaking and badass, and I enjoyed the call back to the second book with him being one of our previously known characters.

I breezed a little less so through Ed and his posse looking for Ella, and by the time we got to the third section, I was just super tense; I couldn't take the waiting and seeing if there were going to be Missed Connections all over the place
Spoiler(Ella doesn't know Malik is there! Ed is so close to Ella but has no idea what she looks like! Is Malik going to give up because he thinks Ella is gone?!)
or if everyone's plot lines were going to finally come together.

That ending...I'm so glad I waited until I could get the last book in my hot little hands before reading this one, because I knew I wasn't going to want to wait, and that cliff-hanger did not disappoint.

One more to go, aah!
