3.5 - kinda like those bad comedies where you laugh but only because of how objectively not good it is- her family was really funny in a well written comedy funny way though. would have been 3 stars if not for her family being the highlight of the whole book

TW/CW:
Spoilermisogyny, sexism, death of loved one (off page), loved one with cancer, dieting and restrictive eating

Here are some thoughts I wrote down while reading, hoping they resemble a review, let me know what you think.

So I think the first 15% of this book is very abrupt, we start off right into the conflict with absolutely no set up to the story and with somewhat of a rude conversation where you're literally talking to someone that's behind your back.

And then we get some extremely sexist disgusting moments where Gerald is a pig who definitely needs to be fired, but also the other 3 men in the room do basically nothing, and doing nothing is just as bad. Also having feelings, being exhausted, and vocalizing that is not whining.

Lina has been holding a grudge for 20 months if I'm understanding correctly? That's a whole lot of time to be working and annoyed, honestly no wonder she's exhausted. Also I think her diet wasn't discussed enough for how much of a problem it was becoming to her actual health.

But after that first 15% of the book, I have no complaints. So here are the little thoughts I jotted down from that moment forward (attention, maybe slight spoilers, but I don't think so?):
- Aaron is a cutie
- shirtless football sounds hot
- making someone you have a crush on smile is the best feeling
- men sharing their feelings is *chefs kiss*
- ah yes, the one bed trope
- get you a man who loves Disney
- how is someone supposed to live up to this... kill me now, I'll be forever single
- having a loving family can truly mean the world, even if they're annoying at times
- consent is sexy
- I absolutely detest the expression "milking"
- as for the ending, kind of underwhelming,
SpoilerI 100% wanted it to end with her proposing to him in front of both their families

And that's it. First book for #Saras11Readalongs2.0 - not the best, but also not the worst, definitely entertaining and I can see why so many people enjoyed it. And I can't forget that this is a debut novel, there's bound to be a learning curve.

Aaron Blackford and Catalina Smith are *chefs kiss*. So freaking cute and swoony. I sort of had a hard time really getting into the book (not until about 60% did it pick up for me) but I still liked it. Just was not a WOW book. I felt like it was too long for what the story was. I also thought Lina was pretty dramatic at the end... I guess something needed to happen though. I really enjoyed the book most when they were in Spain, and agree with other readers that it would have been best ending there. Cute summer vacation vibes read.

Oh, one pet peeve. How many times did the author tell us that Aaron has blue eyes.... (ocean blue eyes, icey blue eyes, blue eyes yadadada on like every other page). That's all.

I had a lot of fun reading this, but it was pretty obviously a debut. Armas used a few phrases over and over, to the point where it was almost annoying to see them, and I think this could’ve really used with some editing down. This is technically enemies-to-lovers with fake dating, but the “enemies” part felt weak and I didn’t understand why she didn’t like him for so long. And for being titled The “Spanish” Love Deception, they actually spend very little time in Spain at all. Too many ideas.
