This was helpful in that it gave great writing prompts and helped motivate me in my writing. However, it felt a little basic for where I'm at, personally.

A succinct instructional text filled with excellent advice and writing exercises. Good go-to book to keep in your writing toolbox.

Read for a class. A well-organized explication of the basics.

This is my first time reading a book specifically on writing memoir so I don't have much to compare it to, but it seems to cover the basics. My favorite bit was on rejecting the anguished writer myth - "what writing does require is that we nurture the stamina it takes to work hard and that we stay fully conscious - and alive."
