Certainly an improvement in pace and interest for me. I'm glad things are picking up as I can actually enjoy what is a well written and thought world (that was obvious on the first one but all the introduction and the slow pace made it way too hard for me to enjoy it). Although I still feel like the climax of both the first and second books led to rushed endings

The continuing adventures of Rand, Mat, Perrin, and friends (or, "friends") start to get rather complicated in this book. It's the part of the fantasy epic where the party splits up and there are multiple storylines to follow; I think at one point it switches among six different point-of-view characters, each in a different part of the world. So it's certainly not the easiest story to follow.

But I think it's worth the effort, especially for a reader who likes richly detailed worldbuilding (as I do). For all the complexity, the different storylines do all tie in to the overall plot of the series, and it's not at all hard to get swept up in the grandeur of the quest that the protagonists are on. Plus, the different plot lines do all reference the common mythology, and they converge back together by the climax of the book. As long as you have some patience, it doesn't feel like you're being led off on irrelevant tangents.

Maybe I like this book more than I "should". But what can I say, it's exactly the sort of thing that appeals to me: a richly detailed and self-consistent world (within reason, it is fantasy after all) and a compelling plot. Ultimately what matters is that I'm happy to have read it and I'm excited to get cracking on the next book!

I loved it. The adventure continues, book two draws you even deeper in to the weaving of the wheel. Like the first it had me on the edge of my seat!

Review:

As good as the first book. Not super excited to continue.

Review previously placed on my blog:

I'm currently reading The great hunt by Robert Jordan. This is the second book in the Wheel of time series.

I have the same feelings as I had with the first book. Maybe less enthousiastic, because I'm dreading the probably long dragging part in the middle. But we shall see, maybe I will like it more then the first book.

Not really picking this up right now. I don't know if I want to read that long of a book with the same kind of story as the first one to be honest. Don't know, we shall see.

I did still like this book, but it took me very long to read. I'm going to try and read them quicker, that will help. I did enjoy the story and the characters. The thing in this book I find the most annoying is that there are three women in love with the main character. Three! Come on. And maybe even a fourth. I hope that will become less annoying in the next book. Overall still a good book I think and I gave it 4 stars.

After The Eye of the World I was unsure how I would feel about this one. I had heard that the story would pick up around the third to fifth book, however this one started opening more to exploring the magic, world and characters giving what felt as a more solid promise for the series as a whole. Where the first felt too much like the Fellowship of the Rings in its pacing, this The Great Hunt started solid and swept me along. The only drawback was the pacing slowed down in couple of places and there was a couple of conveniences given to bring the characters back to the plot.
