An excellent, fast-paced mystery with interesting, multifaceted characters.  The plot twists are exactly what I look for in a thriller!  I would recommend reading the trigger warnings beforehand.  The Eddie SA scene was unneccesary in my opinion.

the chalk man is one of those books that are great to nake you shocked by how dark they are, but, it's definetely not an actually good book. some points of the story, such as
Spoilereddies' rape scene, the final scene in the asylum and all of the gore based scenes
were not really scary, just uncomfotable ro read. the main plot is overall very confusing and not very enjoyable. there are some points that are actually interesting, but most of the books feels like reading a stephen king book with all of the pages scrambled. overall, it's confusing, but, if you like thrillers, you might want to give it a try, it can be enjoyable when you like violent and shocking scenes.

I liked it and I didn't, so I'm settling on a three. Suspenseful, creepy, and thrilling--yes. Somewhat difficult to follow when tying all of the threads together & reminiscent of Stephen King--also yes.

There was a lot going on with both time lines in this book and there was never a time where everything didn’t overlap. It all came together at some point and CJ Tudor didn’t write anything for no reason.

The only reason I have to take a star away is because there was actually a graphic sexual assault scene on page 67 that I did not think was necessary and I feel like a lot of horror books do things like this for shock value & I am not a fan really.

Everything else about the book was great. Lots of twists and turns throughout the whole book.

Due to Tudor's writing style, I found it difficult to put the book down, especially after I got to the second part of the book. The atmosphere was almost palpable, and I just kept on turning the pages.

I do think the parts of the book that were set in 1986 were somewhat cringy, as she tried to write realistic dialogues between the teenage main characters. This could be due to the translation though.

The buildup to the plot twist was great, and the ending really caught me off guard. Perfectly fine read if you're new to the genre and want to get a gist of what it can offer.
