As a crossover event, the Armor Hunters storyline is annoying to read. It's split across four collections, and doesn't really instruct you on when to read which issues.

Of the collections I've read so far, this is the best and most focused of them. You're introduced to an entirely new set of characters who are invested in hunting the style of armor that Airic (the previous protagonist of X-O Manowar) wears. You follow the adventures for four issues, and the rest of the crossover doesn't matter. You're just following this new set of characters, who are given some depth, interesting circumstances, and huge stakes.

It's a great book, and I wish I'd read it before any of the other Armor Hunter books.

The final issue flashes forward to events that take place after the rest of the crossover, and if you don't put down this book and go pick up the main Armor Hunters book before reading the final issue, then you get no catharsis, and Out Of Nowhere, we're back to seeing Airic's story, and how he intersects with one of the characters from the previous four issues.

It was a big disappointment after the previous issues in this collection.

Still, the first three issues of this trade are excellent. If you enjoy worldbuilding, intergalactic sagas, and/or rebels joining the military to avenge a major loss, then I think you'll love at least the first 3/4s of this collection.

Sooooo...three out of the four issues in this volume don't have Aric in it. Correct me if I'm wrong...but this is his comic right? He shows up in the last issue...which I didn't really understand because I didn't read any of the other Armor Wars comics. Something about how he has mastered his suit - but there was a price. I have no clue. I'm hoping that moving forward I can figure it out? I'm very close to quitting this comic. It started out so strong, but now Valiant has gone all Marvel and DC on me and made it necessary to buy pretty much all of their titles to understand only one of them. It's a pity. If the next volume doesn't give me something that'll be the last one.

I'm still giving this a 3-star rating. The first 3 issues may not have had anything to do with Aric, but it was still a cool little sci-fi origin story for the Armor Hunters. True, I will never know the whole story cuz I'm not reading the other tie-ins, but what I read here was fun enough. I guess.

The question is, is fun enough...enough?

I need more and soon or else I'm shit-canning this one.
