I absolutely adore Mateo and Evie! While this is a paranormal romance, the world building is incredible and I can't recommend it enough

This is a sweet and cozy slow burn monster romance. It was a little too slow with the action. I really wanted to learn more about the mystery of who hexed Mateo sooner than anything was actually revealed. I feel like mysteries usually give hints along the way and this one was kind of out of left field without much buildup until the very end of the story.

I liked the characters and the sweet scenes that were between the two of them and how their love grew over time. I am a big geek when it comes to comics and movies so Evie's personality was endearing to me.

A fun start to the witchy romance series. Mateo is a sweetheart and Alpha is hilariously blunt, but I personally felt Evie was a little too "I'm a chill, nerdy girl who ain't afraid of no wolf!" at times. I still like her and Mateo's interactions, and the very light introduction to her sisters. Be ready for a hefty helping Alpha(wolf) Male possessiveness and some forward demands about submissiveness. Only one spicy scene, but it is explicit in the details.

Wolf Gone Wild

This book was so much fun to read! I’m so glad I picked up the other books in the Stay a Spell series because I can’t wait to start in on Book 2.
Book 1, Wolf Gone Wild, introduces us the the hidden world of supernaturals in New Orleans. Rather than focus on the party & nightlife aspects of the town that you commonly see in fantasy novels cast in this city, you see more of the daylight hours establishments. Specifically the metaphysical shop run by Evie, our MFC, & her sisters, and the art gallery run by Mateo, our MMC…and an Alpha werwolf… WHO CAN’t SHIFT!
Mateo seeks out the help of Evie & her sisters to help break whatever curse has been cast on him that is preventing him from shifting. Meanwhile we, the readers, treated to the grumpy inner dialogue of Alpha, his wolf’s persona. It’s giving MAJOR Venom vibes!
Throughout the story you are introduced to other magical characters and creatures while you follow the Evie-Teo love story. It’s a quick & funny read with just the right amount of spice. I enjoyed it & I hope you do too!

Very, very close to being a full 5 stars. The end just didn't do it for me. I liked the ending, it wasn't bad. But the conflict resolution wasn't as interesting as trying to figure out the mystery during the book. I didn't find it to be predictable necessarily, but some people might.

A lot went into the sisters trying to figure out who "hexed" Mateo, but all their efforts didn't even matter in the end because none of the avenues they used are how they ended up figuring it out.
The person responsible just outed themselves.
😅 (I marked that as a spoiler just in case, but it's not too explicit.)

I loved the tension and the build up of the romance. Mates as a trope, especially in werewolf romances, is usually not enjoyable for me, but it was more low-key in this book which I really appreciated.

While some of the language and behavior of the FMC was a little "young" for a 38 year old, I also feel like it made sense. She's supposed to be young at heart, nerdy, and maybe just a little weird to some people, but Mateo loves her and embraces her for it. As a 30-something who feels like they'll be young at heart literally forever, I appreciate how the FMC is accepted for who she is and what she likes and is encouraged to be herself.

Finally, I have to say I loved that this book took place in New Orleans. While I don't love NOLA all that much in real life, I appreciate it's culture and how fun it is to use as a setting, especially for witches, werewolves, and vampires. My hometown of Lafayette was even mentioned in this book! It made me homesick and I especially miss the Cajun food.

Loved the characters and plot! I’m a sucker for supernatural books. I will definitely read the rest of the series. The only reason I’m rating this 4 stars is because this book should have been 100 pages shorter and the end was only about 30 pages/2 chapters. This book was so long and slow just to have the end feel rushed. I was bummed tbh.
I felt like the end was more of a shock factor that didn’t make much sense to the overall plot. Did it wrap the book up with a nice little bow? Yes. Did I feel any sort of “wow that was such a great twist” when reading it? Not really :(
Still enjoyed it though and thought it was very cutesy!

This book is so stupid cute!! Mateo and Evie are such sweethearts and I love when two artists get together. I think the plot was fun and the side characters were adorable. I just think the story development left a tad to be desired. The climax ended pretty fast and a few things felt unresolved. I also think the whole Sandra thing came out of the blue but whatevs. Still cute and worth the read.
