Absolutely beautiful. I read this with my 7 and 9 year old daughters and it was a perfect introduction to the refugee experience. I was drawn into the story and became very invested in the characters, so much so that the notes at the end are not to be missed. I wish I could find out more about what happened with each person in the story. Maryam’s story in the book really moved me as well as Fatuma’s.

Depicts a refugee's life over the course of over a decade, including chronic hunger and deep poverty. Some readers may like to know how the author's life turned out to get through the more difficult material:pucksandpaperbacks's review against another edition

A fantastic graphic novel about Omar's life in a refugee camp in Kenya. His brother is nonverbal and is prone to seizures. I learned a lot about Omar's life and I loved the author's note at the end from Omar providing resources. Lancaster, PA is close to me and I'll be checking out those resources. Highly recommend!
