Josie and her buttons are back in a mystery set at a hotel during a button collectors' convention. Who murdered the famously reclusive button collector, and what happened to the rarity he was planning to show off? And why the heck does everybody find Josie's shiftless ex-husband so irresistible? Only some of these questions will be answered!

I don't understand this author. This is her second book in this series and once again, she has forgotten the name of one of her main supporting characters. Daryl becomes Dylan on page 146 of the book. I should have just given up halfway through, but stupidly I pressed on. The typos & spelling errors were very annoying and I had the "mystery" figured out 50 pages into it. Plus, I didn't really realize how boring buttons actually are. I really usually don't come down this hard on a book, but don't waste your time.

Another of my favorite series. It's on the must-get list when each book comes out. And this is only the second one in the series.
Each cozy series brings a new-to-me premise that I would love to embrace, but my husband would likely go bonkers so I read about them.
This one is about button collecting. Who would figure that it would be this entrancing or lead to murder?
Josie is in charge of the annual button convention and finds herself neckdeep in a murder investigation. The victim is a loudmouthed button expert and is a mega lout, so no one is upset him being dead, but where is the famed Geronimo Button he brought to the convention?
Josie is so personable I want to lean into the book and help her out. I want to learn about buttons.
I cannot wait for PANIC BUTTON to come out on 31 Dec.

I purchased this at a used book store. I just finished it sitting at Starbucks waiting for my daughter. I still like the main character, Josie but I have to say that I did not enjoy it as much as the first book in the series. This is unusual for me. I often find the first book not as good as some of the later ones in a series. I think my lower opinion of this book is due to the fact that the button theme has become much more prominent and quite frankly, I’m just not all that interested. This book was not set in Josie’s store but rather at a button convention and perhaps that led to more of the technical button details. Some of the plot was very obvious, the documentary filmmaker and the sabotage story lines for example.

As I said, I do like the recurring character and the main murder mystery had an interesting twist to it. The author makes use of red herrings to misdirect the reader pretty successfully. There seems to be an interesting love triangle developing, like the Hannah Swenson series. The writing is well done. After all this, there is enough good about this series that I am going to give it another try with Panic Button. I am hoping that book is set back in Josie’s store.

I like this series - great characters (although her ex annoys me) and just a bit of romantic tension between Josie and the detective Nev. I love Chicago and it's fun to read about an area that I can easily picture in my minds eye. This particular book I didn't enjoy as much as the first although it was good - and while I was sure I knew who was responsible for some of the crimes, it turned out that while I had the players right, I had the crimes wrong. So, a nice surprise at the end. The backdrop for this story is a button convention, so the entire story takes place in a hotel. It's clear that other than Kaz, Josie and Nev, these characters are all disposable, so it's hard to really care about any of them, and I think that was the only detraction for me.

A book I'd recommend to cozy mystery lovers as a light, fun read. I'll definitely be looking for the next book.
