I love a Greek myth retelling, especially those that put women at the centre and Medea is now one of my favourites, up there with Circe. It was magical, complicated and messy.
The way I was on her side, even until the end (and like many greek myths the end was DARK) show how gorgeously this character was portrayed.
The only thing I might change is this easily could have been two books. This book covers Medea and Jason’s story (I wouldn’t recommend reading this book if you know the story and don’t want to hate Jason) and then there are hints of what she does next in the last chapter, but honestly I’d have loved to have read another book covering how she got there!

This was easy to get through, but the impact fell a bit short.
I don’t know how to explain it other than say I was hoping Medea‘s villainy/villain arc to be stronger? My guess is it’s to do with the writing. It was interesting to see Medea‘s thought process. But it’s always tricky to mix “modern interpretation“ with ancient myth, and unfortunately a lot of messaging felt quite on the nose or more telling than showing. I liked the chapter from Chalciope‘s pov at the end because we got to see Medea from someone else‘s perspective and just quite how terrifying she was. I‘d just thought it would be more of a punch in the gut throughout.

So overall, I enjoyed this, but I was kind of hoping for more.
