A bit too young adult for me, not enough plot. Great ending but not enough to make the read worth while.

I hate to be mean to books, but this book put me in a slump, therefore this rating. I almost didn’t finish it. However, I forced myself to do it and near the end it became somewhat interesting again.

Wow.. I just, yeah. Wow. So much wow. I thought I made it without crying, but then... I hadn't. SO, yeah. Wow. I don't even know what else to say. Haha. I adored this book.

I will either do a book review on my blog and/or a video on my channel. Maybe just a video so that I can avoid spoiling things. But, just... SO MUCH WOW. So beautiful. So amazing.

I have so many different feelings at once about this. This is one of those powerful stories that will stick with me for a long time.

SPOILER FREE REVIEW

Once Upon a Time, a girl had this book recommended to her. She was told that it was a mystery/thriller that she would adore and the plot twist would blow her away. She read the book in less than 24 hours
though not because it was any good
but because she was simply determined
to get it over with.
If you haven’t already guessed,
that girl is me.
My name is Susanna Hamilton.
I did not suffer until I suffered through this book.

Okay, but in all seriousness, I didn’t think the writing was that good.
And why did it
keep doing
this really
annoying
broken sentence
structure?
Someone needs to tell E. Lockhart that free verse poetry is not sentences randomly broken up. Or at least, no GOOD poetry is written like that. If anything in the book could even be considered poetry - it was all terrible.

I found Cady really annoying and unlikeable. Was I supposed to like her? Was I supposed to like anyone in the entire story? Because, honestly, this book was full of the most annoying, uninteresting, and pathetic characters that I have read in a long time - and that is saying something, considering I just read the entire Twilight Saga (which was, in fact, better than this!).

And the plot twist was terrible! There two elements required to make up a good plot twist. The first is that the plot twist is surprising. I guess this book had that, though I found it more confusing than surprising. The second is that it needs to make sense and the audience should not feel cheated. A well-written plot twist should shock readers and make you think “What?!? How???” And then, when you either think back on the plot or go back to read parts of the book, you should see some hints towards the plot twist that you notice now, but you didn’t think were important beforehand. This will make you feel like “How did I not notice that before?” but you can’t help but love it anyways. Good examples of this are Agatha Christie’s “The Murder of Roger Ackroyd” or Claudia Gray’s “The Murder of Mr. Wickham.” A terrible example is this book. The plot twist made no sense. There were no hints, and the plot twist itself calls the entire plot line (if you can call it that) into jeopardy. Because if the plot twist is true, then I’m surprised no one let slip what happened earlier because it would be REALLY obvious that something is wrong. Also, E. Lockhart’s way around the plot twist is ridiculous.

I don’t know if anyone will take the time to read this review but, if you have, don’t bother with this one. It is not worth the hype.

I loved the story but at times, I get really confused. I have mixed feelings with the book. I feel like the twists are everything to this book, and I'm still expecting more. I'd say that it's still worth a read.
