"Do not let the behaviour of others destroy your inner peace"
This was Austen's first published novel which she published anonymously going with 'By a lady' name.
Characters: The Novel follows two sisters, Elinor and Marianne. The elder sister, Elinor depicts sense - she is driven by logic, controlled emotion and reserved nature. On the other hand, Marianne, the younger sister - she is upfront, sensitive, passionate, always out with her feelings.
They both fall in love with two different men and goes through different kind of emotional turmoils throughout the book.
Thoughts: I loved Austen's masterfully crafted prose together with wit, humour, dig at certain social norms through different expressions and conversations.
Austen skillfully demonstrated the role of class, money in making a suitable suitor for marriage during those times.
Pace: Pace is rather slow and table conversations occupy a large part of the book. But, if you are someone who loves great character development, different emotional exploration of characters through long conversations along with beautiful, witty prose while immersed in the Victorian Era; this book is for you.
I would suggest reading it along with the Audiobook read by Karen Savage(available on Youtube). I think she has the best voice to read Austen's books and you will truly enjoy the experience.
Adaptation: I would recommend checking out the 1995 adaptation starring Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Alan Rickman(my favourite!), Hugh Grant.

A rarity in Austen - this is a novel of not first attachment's, but the happiness of leaving a first attachment behind and finding a purer, more sacred love in a second.
I confess I fail to understand Colonel Brandon's attachment to Maryanne, especially as he spends his time chiefly conversing with Eleanor. After hearing his story, I realized my least favorite attachment stems from a man falling in love with a woman that resembles a prior love.
I found Eleanor an inspiration and Maryanne at times a glaring mirror. Although my happiness usually lies in the success of marriage, this time it was achieved by the continued happiness and proximity of two sisters.
