The James Gordon Jr. Story arc is such spook. I didn't even know the guy had a son. We usually just hear about Barbara Gordon, aka Oracle.

When Batman: The Black Mirror was released, it catapulted writer Scott Snyder into comics superstardom, cementing him as not only one of the greatest Batman writers of his generation, but of all time. Francesco Francavilla and Jock alternated in illustrating this eerie tale, with each atmospheric panel oozing psychological horror from page to page. I thought Francavilla's noir-color styling was some of the most effective at displaying the psychological themes explored in The Black Mirror. It had the best understanding of Snyder's writing. Despite Francesco being the standout, the world was reminiscent of the recent Matt Reeves Batman, which felt similar to Francesco's colours and Jock's graphic grittiness.
Snyder wrote this in such a way that it did feel like a film, his literary talents shine brightly in the dark abyss of Gotham City.

This is one of the few Batman stories that doesn't involve Bruce Wayne but is incredibly well done. For that reason alone this story remains an all time classic.

Scott Synder is at his best writing Batman I think. The story does get bonus points because it stars Dick Grayson as Batman and I really enjoy that era of Batman.
What I like about this story is that it focuses on Jim Gordon and adds some great extra parts to the Bat mythos. Turning his son into a psycho is a great idea and the personal drama really works.
The art also rocks. The style works for the story and I enjoyed both artists.
The downsides for me are endings. These are never Synders strong suit and the defeat of the all the various villains in the book fees too quick. The Joker is also shoved in here for no real reason I feel.
But on the whole an excellent Batman story
