Nina & Simon are on vacation when something happens, and Nina breaks up with him. When Simon returns home, he tells everyone that they had broken up and he came home but Nina was going to have someone pick her up the next day. Nina's parents file a missing person's report and an investigation ensues, and Simon's story is repeatedly questioned. When the truth is revealed, it will shock everyone.

I really enjoyed this novel. First, it should be noted that the plot was influenced by the Gabby Petito case although Simon's personality reminds me of the Natalie Hollway case.  You will recognize the story within the first few pages. That being said, the story does find its own plot further into the book. The despair the family feels is palpable and their anger and fear show in every word. This story kept me interested from beginning to end. This is one I will be thinking about for some time.

I want to start off by saying that this is a fantastic premise, and totally unique. I really loved the layout of the book, especially because I was gripped by story even though we know what happened from the prologue. I think that's great.

However, I was incredibly disappointed in the writing. I found it dry and dull. I think if I turned in this writing during my uni degree I would have received a C, which isn't bad, but you wouldn't think it was publishing-worthy either. There was a lot of telling and very little showing. I ended up finishing the book only because I skimmed it, otherwise I thought about DNF'ing early on.

If you’re looking for a thriller that keeps you guessing until the end. This isn’t it.

But if you want a thriller that gives you all the answers by the middle of the book, then raises just as many questions, with a strong focus on character development and different reactions to tragedy and trauma this is definitely the book for you.

I find this book hard to compare to anything I’ve read before because it’s just so different to anything else. And different in a way that really works.

Major trigger warnings needed especially for anyone that has been personally affected by domestic violence proceed with caution. I struggled with the first chapter in particular but after that I was okay.

Excellent suspense novel - the propulsive writing and fast pace pulled me in right away. It was an engaging approach to tell the story from multiple perspectives and the end surprised me.
