A wonderful book to kick off 2022. I started reading this back in August but finally made my way back to it in the last week. Girl One is a great sci-fi thriller, reminded me of Atwood or The Power, an invented world that asks 'what can women be?'

Okay I was very drawn in by the plot of this one but as a reader who favors character-driven stories, I felt like the characters were lacking and not fully fleshed out.
Also a little second wave feminism-y but it is set between the 1970s and the 1990s so maybe that was the point?
All in all not bad and I mean it did keep me reading all day to figure out what was going to happen so job well done I suppose.

Definitely a slow burn book but once you get further and further in & towards the end it’s really hard to put down.
I love a book with some wlw representation but
Spoiler the relationship between Josie and Cate made me a little uncomfortable because there the theme in the book that all 9 girls are “sisters” so it just made me a little uncomfy

4.5 ⭐️ I love a good book about strong women banding together…add some sci-fi and I’m all in. I had no idea how this would all turn out in the end and there were many twists and turns that kept me coming back (and made it hard to find a stopping point when I needed to go to sleep). Thoroughly enjoyed this book and wish there was a sequel.

The storyline is interesting but the book could be condensed in half and be a way better.

I DEVOURED this book! The reviews about being similar to the show Orphan Black sparked my interest. From the start, the history of the character was enough to keep me reading. As she found more clues and pieced the past together, I was on the edge of my seat! The writing was the perfect balance of descriptive and direct, which is the best combination in my mind. Each character was distinct and I could see how they moved in the world. An absolute triumph by Sara Flannery Murphy!
