The book was sweet and nice. I liked it and wanted to listen to the rest of the series. This is my fourth book by the author and she is pretty good at storytelling.
The book follows Jo and Everett and they fall in love. They have to deal with trials in their relationship but they nerve break up. They also have to still with their past and trust issues. They also have exs that try to do everything to break them up. But they find their way in the end. By the end the situation with the exs dragged on for so long that I was tired and annoyed with anything they came into the chapter. The daughter of Everett also wasn't my favorite but she was 15 but I didn't care for her at all by the end of the book.
Overall I did like the book and I do recommend it. I do want to finish the series it just wasn't a four-star book for me it wasn't bad but it just wasn't great to me.
The book was lighthearted and sweet. At times the main characters would annoy me. But the most annoying characters were the exs. Let's start with Everett's ex-Ester who cheated on him in their relationship and marriage. She pinned a baby that wasn't his on him. She tricked him into marrying her by saying the baby was his and she wasn't he found out after the divorce cause he did a DNA test. Then got upset after he moved on 11 years after they broke up. This man has made it clear over the years that he hated her and would be okay if she fell off the face of the earth which is understandable. Then tries to break up him and Jo by trying to make it seem like her position in his life is higher than it is. He doesn’t even answer the phone for her. Their daughter is 15. Then she has the nerve to tell Jo that he still loves her and they have a child together that was made out of love and he still loves her and he would never want to raise Jo's child cause she isn't his. Neither is your daughter. She then does revenge porn on Jo that she and Jo's ex's new wife who he cheated with stole out of his phone and posted it online. Jo then read her for the nothing that she is and threatens to expose her for cheating and telling everyone that Ella isn't his daughter meaning Ella and his family would find out. His family doesn’t like his ex and they never wanted him to marry her. He caught her by coming home early from one of his tours and found her having sex with their daughter's nanny and her bodyguard. She eating the nanny and the bodyguard was eating her.
Jo's ex-husband cheated on her with his manager and left while she was pregnant because she didn’t fit his lifestyle. That he wouldn’t have had if it had not been for her working 3 jobs to pay for his studio time and paying all the bills. He said well if the world knew he had a wife and child(that he planned to have) existed then they wouldn't take him seriously in the rap game. So he left her pregnant said he didn’t want any kids and then went and married his manager and then had a baby with her. She got the house and full custody of the baby and he had to pay her child support and alimony. He then told her when he found out that she had moved on that she better not be sleeping with anyone in the house (which isn’t cause she got the house in the divorce) and that he might want her back someday. And then at an awards show got on stage after her new man performs a song and proposed to her. He got on that stage with his new wife Sonya in the audience after she had just had a baby and told the world that he still loved Jo and wanted her back. He pulled on her hand while she was kissing her new man trying to pull her onto the stage. And then as she is leaving he grabs her butt and says she will always be his. Everett then beat him and got arrested. He also tried to get her to leave with him when pulled up to her new house with her new man talking about he loves her and will leave her wife if she comes back to him.
His bodyguard was a hater who was mad she didn't want him. But he got dealt with real quick.
The daughter was annoying honestly. She didn't have a reason to hate Jo she just did because her mom didn't. She also invited her mom to Thanksgiving and didn’t tell her dad and she was staying at his house he put the mom out like he should have. She then snuck her mom into the house where the mom watch Jo and Everett have sex talking about she wanted to see if it was real and how Jo can't ride him. The daughter got better at the end but by then I didn't like her or care whether she was present in the story or not. She wasn't in the book much.
Her mom's family showing up at the end made me mad. I get Everett was trying to do something nice but no. Jo's mom slept with a training preacher who was I think well over 25 I think she said 30 and Jo's mom was 18. She got pregnant and then when Jo was 8 he told the mom that they could be a family sold her dreams only to sleep with her and then walk back out of the door without even turning around to face his daughter he caught him. Jo has only seen that man's back. The mom then got depressed and got put into the hospital and Jo was sent to a group home because the school noticed. Her mom was gone a month and then got out and was getting a check. Her also couldn’t hold onto a job because she would just stop showing up. She then committed suicide the night of Jo's prom telling her she didn’t need her anymore because Jo was grown. All because a grown man took advantage of a teenage girl and sold her dreams. That was grooming. So her preacher dad threw his daughter away as well as the rest of the family turning their back on her when they found out she got pregnant. They took his side. The mom never got over it and was always neglecting Jo.
