This book is everything. I'm going to let the author's words speak for themselves: "I hope this book allows for conversations that are as honest and raw as we each need. And ultimately that it leaves you with a little hope, a little peace and a whole lot of love." Yes, yes it did. And I have no words for the illustrations. Khoa Le just became one of my favorite illustrators! Absolutely gorgeous and so so expressive.

This tender picture book about grief and uncertainty comes from the author's own experience of fighting cancer while also parenting young children. The story is emotionally honest without being too dark for children or too sentimental for adults, and it will be an encouragement to many families going through similar things. The cultural elements are also appealing, since the other cancer-related picture books I've read only featured white families.

Great book for families that are dealing with illness or a parent with cancer.
