B-O-R-I-N-G! This one was hard to finish. It started out slow. Got a little better in the middle. The last part of the book was slow going. I finished it…but I had a hard time doing so. Ugh!!

Another completely far-fetched Stone Barrington book. Too much sex, too pat of a plot with everything easily falling into place to catch the bad guys. Such a far cry from the early writings of Stuart Woods.

This book opens with an insurance adjuster coming to Stone's house about the money that had been stolen by Hank/Marty in the last book. The insurance adjuster happens to be a beautiful woman named Crane Hart, and of course she falls into bed with Stone almost immediately. Stone takes her to a Strategic Services party, where her ex-husband, Don, shows up. Turns out Crane hadn't been entirely honest, as they aren't exactly divorced yet, merely separated. Stone hooks her up with Herbie, who rushes the divorce through. Meanwhile, Crane had taken a job with Mike at Strategic Services, and she now dumps Stone, saying that she's going to give Don a second chance, which confounds all of us, as he'd been abusive, etc. Stone doesn't stay heartbroken for long; he almost immediately starts seeing Ann Keaton, an adviser on Kate Lee's presidential campaign. Stone takes Ann to a party at Jack Coulter's house, where burglars break in, stealing a lot of expensive jewelry. Turns out
SpoilerDon deals in alarm companies, and he'd recently purchased the company that Jack used. Stone's house is hit next, and all of his mother's paintings are taken, the same paintings Crane had commented on while at his house. Over at Strategic Services, Crane is in charge of a huge jewelry event, and Stone and Dino work with Mike to shut her out of the loop. It's unclear whether she grows tired of Don or she realizes they're onto her or she feels guilty, but she goes to Dino and Stone, seeking immunity. They wind up catching Don in the end
. Kate's campaign is going well, and Ann seems to be here to stay, at least for a book or two - Stone never keeps them around long.

My review of the last Barrington novel pretty much stands for this one as well. Stone meets up with a hot female insurance agent (how original) to settle his claim of stolen money and ends up handing her the keys to the kingdom. The problem is she turns out to be a con-artist along with her thug husband. Barrington has to employ the use of his friend Dino and the NYPD to bring down the continuing thefts that occur because of these criminals. Along the way, he also meets a hot political campaign organizer (sigh) for his friend Kate Lee, who is now running for president. What a world he lives in....

i read this book to fulfill the goal read a author you have never read before. i choose this author because he has written probably close to 30 books. i figured if i liked it than i would have many more books to choose from. unfortunately, he could not seem to stop using the f word. if you could get past the extreme vulgarity it was a decent story, but i would not try another one if this book is typical of his writings.

I liked the story but I think it ended too soon...not sure I care for a new book every 3 months. Its like a short story each time instead of a long novel. I still love the character of Stone Barrington though and will keep reading.
