My Thoughts On: Angel & Spike #9

1. Finally! We introduce Kate Lockley to this series! Kate is a character who gets complicated reactions from Angel fans, but I personally love her. I'm excited to see what she does in this series.

2. Spike is always a sass-master, and I love him for it! "We should talk about this in private. The kids don't need to see Mommy and Daddy."

3. Again, Spike is just the best at one-liners. "So you're taking in strays, now? Gonna sew up some costumes? Get little symbols and wear them on your chests?" Honestly, I (and the writers of Angel) have always seen Angel as a Batman type so this joke feels especially on point. Someone write this crossover fanfiction, please?

4. I really like how this issue highlights the fundamental differences between Angel and Spike while trying to make them allies. "You can't trust him." "Never asked them to trust me. Because I'm not dumb enough to think they can."

5. I love how Fred and Gunn argue for Angel to trust Spike a little while Spike eavesdrops outside, a weirdly desperate look on his face. It's so tender, and I like that Angel is starting to have emotional stakes as a series.

6. I live for an appearance by Lilith, and it's interesting that she's the one to give Kate Angel's card. I'm not sure what will happen next, but whatever it is I hope it involves more Lilith.

7. I feel like Angel gets maligned as a series and a comic book that are not funny. I would like to argue the opposite because there is pure comedy gold in both version. Case in point? "You're beeping." "I have a phone?" I was laughing so hard at this it almost hurt.

8. Anytime Angel and Lilith interact, I get excited. I particularly liked it when Angel and Lilith were discussing his phone plan. Honestly, these two!

9. I'm not really sure what this bad guy is or how he sets fire, but I'm afraid.

10. And that's a cliff-hanger, guys! Let's see what happens next...
