I have fallen quite far behind in [a:Marie Force|1508588|Marie Force|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1429106444p2/1508588.jpg]'s Fatal series, and after a little due diligence picked up where I left off with Detective Sam and her politician-now-VP husband Nick. They are still adjusting to the demands and limitations of Nick's 'job', still reeling from the blows and dangers Sam and her squad have experienced recently, when a young man appears on Sam's doorstep claiming he believes he is the child of a couple whose 2 day old baby was stolen 30 years earlier. There is just one hitch: it means accusing the FBI's revered director of child kidnapping.

As always, the plot is high action and high drama, although this time not quite as up close and personal for Sam and her family. I did find the final wrap up and secrets revealed to be so outrageous as to be impossible to believe it had been kept secret for 5 minutes let alone 30 years. I still enjoyed catching up on the series, and indulging in some hot action, and I don't mean just the shootout.

To say, I'm a huge fan of this series would be a vast understatement, and I couldn't wait to get my hands on this latest release. Which quite frankly did not disappoint, in fact, it was terrific, and in my opinion, this series just gets better and better. As Fatal Identity was packed full of suspense, emotion and heat. With a story that was equally gripping and confounding to the individual characters and group relationships as they struggle to deal with the aftermath of Detective Arnold's murder some six weeks previously and the impact it has, not only within the Homicide Department but with the families of their loved ones. Especially for Gonzo who has struggled since that terrible moment in Fatal Frenzy and the scenes between him and Christina were particularly emotional to read.

As for Sam she is struggling with being sidelined whilst a hot case is in progress, especially as she got the ball rolling. Even though it means time at home with husband Nick and son Scotty who have both been struck down with the flu; and all this comes at a time when she and the Vice President are more popular than ever before, but also have plenty of other issues to deal with, not just at work but home too.

And as usual, there is plenty of banter and hot moments between Sam and Nick, and I love how their relationship has evolved especially with Scotty now firmly in the mix. Who it's fair to say always brings humour and a smile to my face. And he's certainly one of many reasons why this story is one I can never put down no matter how many times, I read it. And I would certainly recommend it to all.

I have loved every one of the Fatal books by Marie Force, but this one kicked it up a notch in the case that falls into Sam's lap. Well, technically it shouldn't be her case, but she's been suspended for hitting a fellow officer (who thoroughly deserved it). But when she's the only person the victim can trust - what else can she do but start looking into it off the clock.

The case is very unusual and takes her to the highest positions in the FBI for suspects. When Special Agent Avery finds out what's going on, he's convinced that Sam is barking up the wrong tree. There's no way that Josh was kidnapped as a baby by the director of the FBI.

The case takes Sam in some very interesting directions, and when Sam and Avery go out of town to investigate, Nick has to come to a truce and put his jealousy aside. I really liked this look into Sam and Nick's relationship. Tense words may have been exchanged, but watching their love and trust shine through is pure #relationshipgoals.

Sam's detective family is still mourning the loss of one of their own. I can't even imagine what that would be like. Force treats the situation delicately, but she also doesn't hold any punches. People are falling apart, people are holding it all in, and the team comes together to help in every way they know how. Another fantastic and suspenseful book.

Wow. Absolutely amazing. Another beautifully written story. There wasn't much I didn't love about this book and what I didn't like is just personal preference stuff. This book had me crying and laughing and turning pages. I cannot wait for the next one.

This book has me rather torn. On one hand, it was a decent read, but on the other, it felt very implausible. I hated the Avery situation, especially since he was with Shelby during one part of it, and kept thinking "Why can't he get over Sam?! This is bordering on obsession!" Sam also didn't really seem that concerned with her constant interference in cases when she's on suspension, and she comes across as too lucky to get into excessive trouble for the massive chip on her shoulder. It is very clear she's getting favoritism, maybe not because of her dad, but because of her case closure rate, and it just didn't feel realistic. The Cappuano family getting over the flu so quickly was slightly hard to swallow, as was the entire mystery plot. I know it seems like I despised this book, but my complaints didn't hinder me from enjoying the story overall. While I plan on continuing with the series, I think it will have to be from the safety of my local library system.
