I got this book on a whim while trying to get discounts on two other books.

First impression was that i loved how teeny tiny this book is, and it'll do me good to finish it for funsies. Also, the premise sounded interesting!

After reading all three stories all i can say is "what the hell?" (complimentary). I enjoyed this book quite a bit. Yes, they're a set of very strange, puzzling, inconclusive stories; yes, you'll get more questions than answers by the end of each story but i really dig the vibe! Not all stories have to make sense!! And that's a-ok! Or!!! Maybe I'm just too stupid to get it!! And that's perfectly fine with me :)

This was a nice little read! I liked the title story the best, the second (Journey with a Lady) the least, and found the third (Nightmare) the strangest of the three. Jackson's writing really shines in short format, and I feel as though this selection is a good one to get you started, if you've never read anything of hers before.

All three stories have that underlying sense of something being off, but you're not entirely certain of what, then at the midpoint the character/s realize something is off, and at the end you get a nice little twist. Jackson's language is very purposeful, and works well even now, almost 70 years later. I will definitely pass this little volume on to a friend, because I really liked it and would love for others to give it a read.

Shirley Jackson will always be one of my favorite short story authors. The Lottery was monumental, and I live for stories such as she wrote. The Missing Girl definitely caught my attention.
