sorry but this was a slog to read. the descriptions are so extremely excessive and melodramatic. speaking of melodrama, his protagonists are all the same exact scaredypants. they're all also usually harvard or equivalent educated, yet it takes them months/years to figure out what is staring them in the face. in the case of the thing on the doorstep, he was literally explicitly told and yet he still couldn't figure it out. i have to believe this is because h p lovecraft doesn't respect his reader enough to discern what is more often than not painfully glaring, because he otherwise writes with eloquence and very creative ideas so he can't be the dumb one. it's a shame because the monsters and scenarios themselves are so cool but actually reading the stories is a chore

Zaczęty jeszcze w październiku zbiór opowiadań Lovecrafta był moim pierwszym spotkaniem z tym autorem. Do tej pory omijałam szerokim łukiem mitologię Cthulhu i Wielkich Przedwiecznych i żałuję, że dopiero teraz poznałam twórczość geniusza grozy z Providence. Przyjemnie niepokojąca, lekko mroczna, ale nie za bardzo straszna - wprost idealna dawka doznań nie z tego świata!
