Audiobook- The novel portrays one year in the life of an extended family living in LA. The family drama was a bit too melodramatic for me. Soap Opera type drama.

I love a book where the characters find what they need within themselves and the people they love, outside social expectations! Yes!

This book gets 4 stars for the atmospheric setting of Los Angeles and how it paints the climate and landscape. It gets 2 stars for everything else.

L.A. Weather is the saga of the giant Alvarado family. The book is a revolving door of characters--none of them likeable in the slightest. Horrible thing after horrible thing is thrown at the family over the course of a year (drowning, divorce, affairs, rape, more divorce, cancer, coma, fire, failing business, financial woes, more divorce) in a telenovela-like plot. However, instead of leaning into the unbelievability with a dash of camp like a telenovela, the book is written as if it is literary fiction. Had it leaned into its accurate genre, it may have been better received.

I struggled with this book. It’s not my favourite genre but it turned out to be a great book. I fell in love with the sisters.
