What a book! Easily one of my all time favourites. A gripping story, very cleverly written from a sheltered 5 year olds' perspective - the language, the thoughts, the descriptions... Superb! Definitely on my 'To Recommend" list

Honestly I expected more. First maybe 1/3 of the book was engaging enough, but it kind of plateaued after that with no real drama. Also, reading from a 5-year-old's point of view written in deliberate incorrect English got pretty frustrating sometimes.

**I read this book for a 2020/21 library challenge, so it is not necessarily be my taste and I may be harsh because it's not my personal preference. Or it could be a total surprise and I ended up really enjoying it.

Rating: 4 stars

The most pleasant of surprises, Room was totally astounding from start to finish. I knew next to nothing going into this book, and though I usually don't recommend it, I think it really did impact my overall enjoyment. My only real complaint is the because it is told in the first person perspective of a 5 year old, we didn't get much of the gritty details. Maybe other readers picked up on them anyway and so were not too bothered, but it did let down my morbid sense of curiosity, just a tad. Regardless, I have doubt that Room will be known as a classic piece of literature, and a reading staple in 50-60 years time.
