I wonder if I was younger if I would have enjoyed this story more. Or if I had read it and not listened to it. There were way too many, "she says" "he says" to explain everything that was being said in the book. And I know that is a super lame way to review and "star" a book, but I found it really, really distracting.

This was my first Judy Blume novel, and won't be my last; she's of course deserving of the status she has in YA. Davey is a fantastic protagonist, a 15-year-old dealing with the death of her father and watching the rest of her family trying to deal with it against the backdrop of an unfamiliar town. I really enjoyed spending time with Davey and her trauma felt real and important on top of the usual business of being a teenager--as her mother says in the book, "it's hard to be 15." The only bummer was getting to see glimpses of Davey's normal/home life and then leaving it--I missed Lenaya!

I loved the image this drew of New Mexico. It made me want to visit Santa Fe. Judy Blume makes grief so real. You can feel the emotions. The aunt and uncle in this are super weird.

Probably my favourite novel by Judy Blume! I loved the setting and the fact that Judy wrote this book based on her own experience with losing her dad made it even more compelling.

This might sound hard to believe but Judy Blume wrote this book 40 years ago to ruin my life specifically
