Adored this. First time reading anything involving a gay love story (a strange realization) and enjoyed the lack of stereotype or expectation. Bonus of learning a lot about Greek mythology! Highly recommend.

This started slow, and I was tempted to give up at one point, but I then got so, so invested in the characters and their relationship and I ended up absolutely sobbing at the end. I've read quite a few re-tellings of myths and this, along with Circe, are by far my favourites.

No se acerca a la maravilla que es Circe. Me aburrió, sin más.

This was a beautiful story. I got really attached to Patroclus, though I didn't care much for Achilles. The writing in this book is phenomenal, but I feel let down. Probably due to the high expectations with which I started the book. The ending made it all worth it. It was heartbreaking, but I wasn't full-on sobbing either.

2 stars is a generous rating, considering my strong feelings about this book. i’ll try to put it nicely but the only words coming to my mind right now are these : i don't think i ever picked up a book with so little chemistry and consistency between the main characters ever, before that one.
the writing wasn't necessarily bad, altough a little flat, but i do appreciate the attempts at poetry, and respect the research put into it, that’s how far i’ll go in complimenting it. the narration was so boring and goddamn passive, all the characters were dull, it made it hard not to despise all of them, especially patroclus and achilles : for one was the most spineless and weak-minded two-dimensional groupie, and the other was a selfish fool with no personality (or morals) whatsoever. their "relationship" had no foundation, and was so inorganic, it felt like reading about two strangers without any attraction for each other, except for the fact that the plot demanded them be together. also the blatant mysoginia ? it wasn’t a good read for me, even though i am glad i went to the end this time. the depictions of loss and grief at the end kinda saved it for me, otherwise it was just mediocre and poorly written, not what i’m waiting for from an epic tale.
