Other than the existentialism and pondering over one’s life choices, appendectomy for his ruptured appendix and a renal transplant could’ve ended Ivan’s suffering, or simply euthanasia

Two little novellas. A nice introduction, though I always worry about whether the translation I'm reading is as good as it could be. There are footnotes, too, though I'm not sure why they think skipping to the back of the book all the time is fun. Why not put them at the bottom of the page?
Anyway, I wanted an intro to Tolstoy and this was perfect: somber, heavy, and rich.

اول قصة موت ايفان قصة بائسة أنه كما يقول المثل كلنا إلي التراب نسير
تعذبت لآلامه
أن تكتشف أنك ظللت عمرك كله مقتنع انك صواب وفي لحظة تكشفت لك الحقيقة أنك ضيعت عمرك علي لاشيء
هو لم يستطع أن يجد العزاء في أنه كان يظن أنه علي صواب
قصة ما نملكه من الأرض لا اتذكر أين قرأتها
ولكن الانسان أسير أمله مسجون بطمعه وفي النهايه إنها مجرد حفرة ويتحول إلي جيفة يأكلها الديدان
قصة إيفان الغبي جعلتني أضحك كثيرا
قصة شعبية جدا
أيضا قصة اميليان
افعل خيرا تجد خيرا أكثر
قصة ثلاثة أبناء تصلح للوعظ وتبين بوضوح النزعة الدينيه المحافظة التي اجدها دائما في كتابات تولستوي
اخيرا نيكولا بالكين
كما يقولون فتحت جراحي
ليس في روسيا وحدها كانت هنالك تلم الفظائع
تذكرت فيلم مشهور في مصر

كان الجندي المكلف بالتعذيب يظن أنه يفعل ذلك من اجل الله والوطن
هذه هي الفكرة
ان تدخل في فكر الجنود أنهم إنما يعذبون من هم مختلفين معهم لاجل الله
الشيء الفظيع أن تقول ان تلك عقيدة وان تقول انها لله
