Shannon and Johnny do not have a happy ending at the end of this book.
Heavy Triggers for:
Child abuse
Abusive family dynamicsÂ
eating disordersÂ
Abandonment
BullyingÂ
Social pressure
AnxietyÂ
AlcoholismÂ
Please read with care and caution. Â
After years of bullying Shannon Lynch is finally getting a new start at Tommen High School. She'll be with friends she hasn't seen in years and it gives her a few hours day away from her abusive home life. Everything is going great her first day. That is until and unportioned accident on the rugby field and throws her in the path of Tommens golden boy.Â
Johnny Kavaugh is a rugby god to his peers but is hiding a secret that could lead to the end of his career before it's even began. He's injured, badly. After an outburst on the field he's crosses paths with Shannon, like the river, and he's completely gone for.Â

Both characters have strengths and weaknesses that balance each other out and had me rooting for them the whole time. Not only did I love Shannon, like the river, and Johnny, but I enjoyed all the size characters too! Gibsie, Joey, Claire, even Lizzie proved to be lovable. I was initially intimidated by the page count and find size but I found myself able to fly through chunks when I made sure to dedicate time! Overall such a cute high school sports romance I will certainly be continuing!

The characters are compelling and I am so keen to learn more about them. I love that there’s so many side characters n you can see them building up to the found family.Â
Johnny and Shannon are amazing n I MUST see them happy. Going straight into reading keeping 13 bc wtf was that cliffhanger omg.Â

Johnny and Shannon were set up beautifully. It was a realistic timeline and for that I applaud Chloe. They were instantly placed with each other. Instead they had the friendship stage where you both know you like each other, but you just won’t admit it yet. Been there, still doing that as we speak, which is why it’s so fun to read about.
This actually set up perfectly the second book and that’s just something that needed to be done well. But god that ending. I WAS SO UPSET. WHY DID MY POOR SHANNON GO THROUGH THAT. WHY WAS SHE GIVE THOSE HORRIBLE PARENTS. I’m so glad she had Joey and I’m so glad he stepped up the way he did even though no child should have to. Has she not had him, she truly would not have survived. I also loved how Johnny was with Shan. He cared so much for her and even when they were just friends, he put in the effort to make sure she was okay. He’s now become one of my new favorite book boyfriends.
