Loved this!!! There were good plot twists, the characters were fun, and I really liked the light romance between Pip and Ravi. I've found myself getting tired of romance that feels shoehorned into books, so this was a welcome surprise. A Good Girl's Guide to Murder was hard to put down, and I flew through it. The incorporation of mixed media was a nice touch. Really the only reason I'm taking half a star off is because
the dog dies.
I also thought
there was going to be something up with the owner of the Ivy House not having amnesia, and her grandson was Henry Hill, so I thought he was going to turn out to be HH, but I was clearly wrong.

I started this book in the afternoon and then stayed up late to finish it. The book follows Pip as she works on both a school project and looks into a murder and the surrounding mystery. The book feels like a love child of Serial and Veronica Mars.
Pip is studious and sometimes dangerously motivated. At times  her friends feel like they exist for furthering the plot. That being said, I did enjoy the depths of the different characters.
The story takes some great twists. It’s a bit of a mystery whack-a-mole-a-mole. Many suspects and sometimes information is revealed to be not as it was first presented.
I also wasn’t sure that the romance element was necessary, but it was light and overall, I didn’t mind it.
Definitely recommend this one.

Dividing books based on the age of the protagonist has always felt a bit arbitrary to me: this book is young adult, but deals with some rather heavy topics, even more so that a lot of the thrillers directed at adults.

This is Holly Jackson’s strong debut thriller. Five years ago a schoolgirl was murdered. Everyone knows who did it, and the case is closed. Pippa chooses the case as her final-year project and starts to dig deeper to what really happened.

The characters in this book are mostly teenagers and the adults in their lives. The characters feel well-defined and authentic with their complex problems. The main character Pippa doesn't feel especially memorable, but on the other hand this gives more room for the story. I liked the family dynamics of the main characters, they were so wholesome.

The book is told in mixed media format: there are notes, texts and diagrams as Pippa collects evidence in an attempt to solve the case.

I found the book to be very entertaining, relatively fast-placed and at least I couldn't predict what had really happened that night five years ago.

If you're looking for utmost realism in your books, be warned. As some reviewers have pointed out, Pippa does get into rather dangerous situations and there seem to be no repercussions for her actions. You'd think the police might have something to say about the way she acquires information.

I'm glad the author managed to stick the landing in the end. Throughout Pip's "investigations," I wanted to reach through my phone and shaker her for her lack of self-preservation. Talk about having protection as the main character (I missed the part where the author described Pip but am willing to bet that she's a white girl so there's that added factor of safety too).
