The story was too dragged out for me. It had so much potential to be better! I loved how it had illustrations throughout all of the pages. That really added something unique to the story. For me, the last 80 pages of the story was the best part.

Right now I am trying to judge the book only by its plot and characters. I first thought it was a cute idea. But the characters were quite boring, somewhat annoying and childish. Moreover, the last attribute goes for the most part of the story, where everyone reacts just like a teenager would think they would. I disliked the behaviour of the teen in love, but after all, this book was meant for a much younger audience.

This is one where I really had no idea what to expect. Jodi Picoult is very genre-oriented - and fairy-tale/fantasy isn't her usual genre.

That being said, I was very pleasantly surprised. This one turned out to be three stories in one: we get Delilah's life, we get Oliver's life, and we get the fairy tale that Oliver was written into. That last part was the most surprising - I didn't expect it to be included. But it was the middle part that I thought was most inventive.

The idea that the characters in a book exist outside of the story when the book is closed is a fascinating one to me. Especially since in this world they are, for the most part, completely independent from their characters (excluding Seraphima, of course). The book characters are simply roles they play when there is a Reader. When there is no Reader and the book is closed, they go about their own daily lives.

There have been so many books where I have wished the characters were real and were actually my friends - and for Delilah, this came true. I found myself envious of her as I read the story. Some of my best friends can be found between the pages of a book - but they don't talk back to me.

I definitely recommend this one - especially if you like a good fairy tale.

I really enjoyed this. I started out really like it at the beginning, but the farther the story went the less I liked it, but that being said I really enjoyed the book overall. I liked how it was like three stories in one. I loved how there was pictures and colored words throughout the entire thing. I just had so much fun reading this. We all wish that our fictional boyfriends were real, and Delilah gives up a glimpse into what could happen.
All in all I really enjoyed this book. It was just such a fun and exciting read, and I can't wait to read the companion novel to this.

Just so you know, when they say "Once upon a time"... they're lying.

Between The Lines is every reader's dream, in my opinion, because who hasn't wished for their favorite book characters coming to life? I know I have with several books and that's why this is a really great book that I'm sure a lot of people will love as well.

To say this book is unique is putting it lightly. It's a contemporary young adult book but it also has fantasy elements, which I loved. There were two points of view: Delilah and Oliver's, but it also focuses on pages that are part of the book, Between The Lines, that Oliver is a part of. So yes, this book is pretty remarkable in that way.

I just really love the concept of this story. Oliver, a fictional prince stuck to repeat the same fairy tale over and over again and Delilah, a reader that loves said fairy tale and as it turns out the only one who can actually hear Oliver. And together they're trying to find a way to get Oliver out of the book.

The trouble Oliver and Delilah go through to try and get him out of the book was huge to say the least. Everything they tried failed each and every time. But I loved how they didn't want to give up now that they had found each other. The story wasn't perfect or anything because it's not like it's the best book I have ever written but it was a sweet story, cute, romantic with fairy tale elements. I just love books like that from time to time.

Overall, Between The Lines was a pretty great story that I know will speak to any reader. In the end all the pieces fitted and everyone got their happy ending, just like I hoped they would.

Cute. A good simple causal Sunday read- one of those inbetweens that you can read between really good books/books you know you'll love so you don't get too "feel-whelmed" (yes I just made that up) and it's kind of a "cleaning of the palate " if that food analogy makes sense. It's solid, but it's not knock your socks up amazing, funny, or whatever, but it doesn't suck and make you hate it. It's neutral.

Okay, so I actually really enjoyed this book. I'm not sure what my problem was, but this book (for me) took me ages to read.

It wasn't the characters. Delilah & Oliver are adorable. Socks, Frump & even Jules were great supporting cast. you even have fairies, wizards, dragons, mermaids, talking dog - EVEN Unicorns. It was just a very interesting story and great idea.

There was so much to love.

maybe it was the timing, maybe it was the pace - I just couldn't seem to really immerse myself into the story. althought, after about 200 pages, I didn't want to put the book down - I wanted to get my HEA.

and seriously, Go Edgar! LOL
