I got through 58% of this book on my Kindle. Then, I just couldn't go further. I believe life is too short for okay books. I mean, there is so much you could you do with war dragons and a war with Napoleon other than a 25 plus dude trying to grasp his wits about there being female aviators. The concept of a lady and how being prim and lacy is all her life should account to, is sadly disappointing. Yes, it's old England, but seriously, I am well past the days of radical feminism. And to see the protagonist act like he's much too in awe to acknowledge a lady who isn't Rapunzel but more like a prince with her short boy hair, is boring.

Saving grace: Temeraire, the dragon. Intelligent, sexy, witty and everything the human protagonist Laurence isn't. The bond though, between them is sweet. THAT is what got me through 58% of muck.

Dragons are always fun. The setting inspires reflection on what’s needed to be considered human

Laurence is a captain for the British Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars. He takes a French boat with a wonderful surprise: a dragon egg soon to hatch and take its handler.

I enjoyed this book SO much. Good going Naomi, smashing through those gender norms even though it's a historical urban fantasy. Great language, good laughs, enticing intrigue.
