I watched the series on Netflix first, and reading the book was definitely quite a shock. The plot is very different and was less detailed than expecting. Not a huge fan of the first half, but enjoyed the vibes. And then I really liked the second half and the ending was great. But now I must immediately know what Nathan’s gift is, so I will indeed be reading the sequel.

So, I saw the trailer for the Netflix show and when I found out that it was based on a book I knew I had to read it before I watched the show (perks of working in a library is free reservations ya'll). I flew through the book, Nathan could surprise me by being funny as hell at unexpected moments, and I'm consequently going to go binge the TV show. I will definitely be ordering the next two books in the trilogy from my library.

I admit I was pointed towards this series due to the Netflix show, however there are enough differences that it kept the book interesting to read with some really interesting writing choices.

This is a reread and I loved it. When I first finished the book back in 2018 (I think) it was 3-3.5 stars, but after I read it I couldn't stop thinking about the characters so I continued with the series, which is my absolute favorite series. The first time I read it the graphic content triggered me, but now that I knew what was coming not so much. But even if it was a reread I had forgotten so many things as the whole series is really fast paced and exciting and definitely a page turner so it was nice reminding myself of them. The friendship between Nathan and Gabriel developed almost out if nowhere (kinda- we just didn't see that much of them bonding on the page), but as I know what happens in the next two books and they are my favorite characters I don't mind haha. It's interesting that I loved Nathan much more now than than I read the book for the first time.
