This story left me speechless. I had heard so many good things about it that my expectations were very high and then I read it and was blown away. The Empress of Salt and Fortune is the kind of book that you need to read two or three times before you fully get all the symbolism and hidden meanings and unfortunately I do not have time to reread it now but I definitely will someday. I think the thing that impressed me the most is that Vo created a whole world in such a short story (which is something all short stories do but this was different). It felt like a novel's worth of stuff happened. This could have easily been a 700 page book and I would have LOVED to read it. I am definitely going to check out more of Vo’s stuff.
