Princess Lira is a lethal siren, revered throughout the sea. Until a twist of fate forces her to kill one of her own. To punish her daughter, the Sea Queen transforms Lira into the one thing they loathe most—a human. Robbed of her song, Lira has until the winter solstice to deliver Prince Elian’s heart to the Sea Queen or remain a human forever.

This book was intense. And I loved every bit of it. When listening to this as a audiobook, I wasn't expecting to fall in love with the characters as quickly as I did. I adore Lira. She's fierce, strong, independent and brave. An inspiring female. I also love, Elian. The chapters in his perspective were interesting, to say the least. Elian is torn between two worlds: The cunning world of thievery, and the world of riches and entitlement. Elian's internal battle between Prince and Pirate was definitely a advantage to this book. It added another dimension and substance to his character. The overall plot was captivating. Reading about this beautiful aquatic world tainted by a depraved Queen, and the war between humans and sirens was both original and enthralling.

Absolutely a 5 star read, and the hype this book received is very well deserved

I enjoyed the 2nd half of this book but the first half was a drag with little to no action. I didn’t feel connected to the characters for some reason, the final battle scene was mediocre
Overall glad I read it but unfortunately nothing to write home about and probably will forget the whole story & characters within a month

I love the main character–Lira. She is strong and not afraid of others despite them being intimidating or frightening they may be. Her character development is excellent because she learns how to become more human, and her values change. I love that books with sirens have the theme focus on how you can be emotional and rugged at the same time.

Elian was also a great character and love interest to Lira. He wants to escape his inheritance as king and his ruling duties. He seeks adventure and a home that is true to him. Elian is so loyal to his crew on the Saad, and they are like a family.

The overall plot was nicely done. It was mildly predictable, but reading through it was still very interesting, and seeing how it plays out. The first half of the book did drag out, but after it was clear and had me hooked until the end.

For a standalone fantasy book, this book was a joy to read.
