Provocative truly exemplifies this set of essays on race. They will provide me with food for thought for a long time.

A painful, sobering, necessary read. I wish it weren't so timely. 2018: still so painful and true.

i think people rate these sort of books highly because they think they should rather than because of the depth or intensity of the narrative. Foe me it was a series of vignettes that just didn't delve enough.

"that time the outside blistered the inside of you, words outmaneuvered years, had you in a chokehold, every part roughed up, the eyes dripping... That's the bruise the ice in the heart was meant to ice"

I bought this ebook thinking I need to read more poetry, and this has set the bar pretty damn high for the poetry kick I am inevitably about to start. Beautifully written, urgent, painful, impressive - I would recommend this to anyone

Don’t listen to the audio book! I did because I didn’t realize it was a multi media presentation which I’m sure would have had a much greater impact. The Audio book alone is still good, though it is clear that something is missing
