Feels like the kind of thing an author needs to write for themselves to ensure great world-building but doesn’t necessarily need to publish for everyone else. Definitely a cool peak inside George RR Martin’s imagination though.

Man, this was gorgeous. As someone who loves lore, especially ASOIAF lore, this was fantastic. Part of me didn't think I'd actually read what others consider a coffee table book cover to cover, but we are too far down the rabbit hole to even try and pretend to be normal about my adoration for this world.

18/130 (2019 Reading Challenge)

I would say 5Stars most definitely for the book itself. It is a lovely hardback tome full of gorgeous illustrations that show you the world of Ice & Fire as GRRM imagined it not as the show. How the iron throne should look for example.
The content of the book is harder for me to rate, it took me a long time to finish this, it was quite dry in places. Though the latter parts covering areas little mentioned in the main books & show were more fascinating & finished that quickly.
But I read a lot at once (just look at my list here of books on the go) & the content, though interesting for a series of books I love. Is hardly compelling reading, there is no pull to find out what happens next & so got read in chunks. But it could be. There was no plot to keep up with so it was able to be read this way.
