As a non-fiction book - it’s written in an engaging way. But the story left me shaking my head. How? How can adults treat children in that way? How can other adults ignore the signs they see? How can those children come out of that childhood with any sense of normalcy? What is normal anyway?

Holy shit.
Honestly I was expecting to be interested in the book but I don’t think I was anticipating the gut wrenching feeling I got while reading this. This tale of family, betrayal & murder was as fascinating as it was absolutely horrific; I couldn’t put it down even though I could feel myself getting emotional through sections.

I actually listened to this as an audible through Kindle Unlimited and listening to someone else read it was powerful. What these women (and others) endured is absolutely unimaginable and if I had been reading the account myself, I think there would have been moments that I wouldn’t have been able to keep going, but I’m really glad I listened to the whole thing. It’s so well written and the narration was great. It was almost hard to remember this is a true story at times because the details are just so mind boggling that it’s hard to believe anyone could really be that sadistic. This is a shocking story but worth it to give a voice to the victims.
