I decided to read this book for two reasons: I love the television show series, and I knew it was extremely popular with teens. The general idea is good, but the writing and the story telling were a trainwreck. Honestly, I can't even remember what happened in the novel, that's how awful I thought the writing was. I even attempted to read the second book and only made it through the first 30 pages before I had to stop reading, and I am not the type to stop reading books just because I don't like it.

This is a separate entity from the television series. Besides some events, and character names, it could be two different 'Gossip Girl's'. Dan is no where near as annoying and Vanessa is less annoying to.. Hmmm. Basically Vanessa is kick-ass cool and Dan drinks too much coffee.

Thought I'd check it out to see if it's okay for my 13 year old daughter to read. The answer is no. In fact, I'm not sure I'd want my 16-year-old reading it. There are a lot of references to sex, drinking and drugs, not to mention the language.
It's not bad if you're a fan of chick lit, but I don't really see what all the fuss is about and why it was made into a TV show.
