Such a sad book but a beautiful love story. Definitely read this if you want a good cry. But be warned, you will be so depressed every time you think about this story.

 I really enjoyed this book.

It was an easy and nice read, wasn't overfilled with unnecessary filler and the pacing was good. Giving a good and clear picture of what is happening in our main character's life, and her inner most feelings. It felt very true and real to how a teenager would feel.

For people who love tragedies (me.) At least 7 chapters of my least favorite boyfriend could have been cut (skipped).
I hate suprise pregnancy tropes
chapter 81 made it all worth it

This was a reread for me before I read the sequel. I liked the audiobook and the narrator they chose, since she has a younger voice. It was less depressing to read this time around bc I knew the story.

OG review:
The style of writing is unique in that there’s not a lot of dialogue, but more like how a teenager would tell their diary what happened today. Takes you right back to hsπŸ₯² a personally hard read because of this. -1 ⭐️ because it’s a sad beginning, first 2/3, and end, and bc of a trope I don’t like that popped up at the end. I would catch myself feeling hopeful for FMC and have to keep reminding myself she doesn’t get a HEA. Would reread, ready to get wrecked by the sequel.

Thoughts: β€˜If He Had Been With Me’ is a β€˜teen romance/coming-of-age’ novel. I devoured this one in less than 24 hours after a bit of a reading slump and a draining few weeks, so thank you, Laura, for helping me out of my slump. I really enjoyed this book. It covers lots of teenage issues such as love, friendship, family, and mental health. The story starts with the ending, so we were all doomed from the start knowing it was going to be a tearjerker. Despite already knowing the ending, I still thoroughly enjoyed this book. I really enjoyed the flashback memories of Autumn and Finn growing up together. This one had me in tears multiple times, but I’m so glad I read it and cannot wait to read β€˜If Only I Had Her’.

Synopsis: An achingly authentic and raw portrait of love, regret, and the life-altering impact of the relationships we hold closest to us, this YA romance bestseller is perfect for fans of Colleen Hoover, Jenny Han, and Lynn Painter. If he had been with me, everything would have been different… Autumn and Finn used to be inseparable. But then something changed. Or they changed. Now, they do their best to ignore each other. Autumn has her boyfriend Jamie, and her close-knit group of friends. And Finn has become that boy at school, the one everyone wants to be around.
That still doesn’t stop the way Autumn feels every time she and Finn cross paths, and the growing, nagging thought that maybe things could have been different. Maybe they should be together. But come August, things will change forever. And as time passes, Autumn will be forced to confront how else life might have been different if they had never parted ways.
