This was a quick read. Never read this author before, just thought the cover was so gorgeous and i’d give it a go. I liked walking around the streets of Berlin. Seeing the city through the lens of the author, a foreigner who has lived there for a bit, just felt so good. It’s hard to describe the excitement and imagination and curiosity and reverence for a new city (it’s language, culture, history, architecture, etc) or really just any city that isn’t the one you grew up in— and I loved feeling that while I was reading this text.

“This city is full of people you might have met, who might have become close friends. Maybe that’s why, even when I’m with an old friend, someone I feel close to, I can’t help suspecting that there are plenty of other people around I would have enjoyed being with just as much, if only I’d had the chance the chance to meet them.” Just break me apart why don’t you yoko? The stories were confusing but they still hurt

unexpectedly kind of loved this? it's about a lot of the things I like: cities, art, memory, trauma, the porous boundaries between imagination and reality. definitely want to check out more books by this author.
