When I learn history from picture books it always bumps it up in my ratings. How had her voice never been recorded? I can’t wait to share this biography with my students!

Florence Mills was a famous singer and dancer in the early 1900's. She was a part of the Harlem Renaissance. No one has ever heard a recording of her voice. Everything we know about her singing is second hand. As amazing as her voice was the way she used her fame and fortune to lift others up.

When an acclaimed author and award-winning illustrator team up together to bring light to a voice that was never recorded but regaled as THE voice of the Harlem Renaissance, you know it's gonna be good.

Gorgeous. Thought provoking. Must read!
