Interesting to have read this two days before the story broke about the young lady in Oregon who has chosen the date of her death, due to a brain tumor. Very thought provoking book about that subject.

I read this book mainly in anticipation of the movie...and I think I've found one of my favourite reads!

This is heartbreaking, but then there are strokes of such hope, of such life, throughout. Absolutely breathtaking, and the characters are just amazing, so well-sketched. I did picture them in my mind exactly as the movie casting, and side note, this was one of the best book to movie adaptations, staying true to the story all the way. Loved Will and Lou, and yes, fell in love with Will.

Tearjerker, for sure, but the best kind!

A brilliant read but I think not hearing from Will's perspective is a bit of a shortcoming as this contributes to the dehumanisation the book tries to avoid.

*MIGHT CONTAIN SPOILERS*

Well, that was such a wonderful story, I expected the ending to scar me, I expected it to break me, but it didn’t. The ending was…ummm…okay !
The Synopsis at the back of the book says “Lou Clarke knows a lot of things. She knows how many footsteps there are between the bus stop and home. She knows she likes working in The Buttered Bun tea shop and she knows she might not love her boyfriend Patrick.
What Lou doesn't know is she's about to lose her job or that knowing whats coming is what keeps her sane.
Will Traynorr knows his motorcycle accident took away his desire to live. He knows everything feels very small and rather joyless now, and he knows exactly how he’s going to put a stop to that.
what will doesn’t know is that Lou is about to burst into his world in a riot of colour. And neither of them knows there going to change the other for all time”

I remember that I read the synopsis over 3 times when I was at the bookstore, but I felt like it didn’t make sense to me. I used to think that it was just another contemporary novel where a desperate girl would meet a handsome, successful man who would make her go crazy over him…(Ugh, i’ve read a lot of contemporary novels that had the same cheesy plot), but then I realised that this story was different, it was not like anything I have read before.
So, basically….Louisa Clarke loses her job at the Buttered Bun Cafe, and now she has to find a new job so she can aid herself, and her family. She goes to the Job Center, and she gets offered some Jobs, and because she was so desperate, she had to take them. She worked in a chicken processing factory, Home Energy Advisor, fast food chain, but she haven’t succeeded in any of these jobs. Eventually, she landed a job as a caregiver for a man named Will Traynor, who happens to be a Quadriplegic. Lou is supposed to take care of him for 6 months. The Traynorr's hired her so she can make Will happy. Louisa accepted the job, and she never really expected what was waiting for her at the end of these 6 months. Will and Lou’s relationship wasn’t very good at the beginning, but eventually, they started to get closer to each other. One day, Lou overheard Mrs. Traynorr and Georgina’s conversation, and she was shocked to know that Will was willing to end his life at the end of these 6 months. When Lou knew about Will’s decision, she tried her best to change his mind, she tried to come up with outings and events that he could go to, she also planned a trip in order to make him love life, but Will was determined, nothing was going to change his mind.

*Thoughts*

I should've finished the book 2 months ago, but I just didn't want to live without Will and Lou's relationship. The book was sweet, sometimes it made me laugh, sometimes it made me cry, sometimes it made me angry. I went through many emotions when I was reading this book. What I got out from it is that Will was trying to make Lou understand that she has a life, and she should not waste it, he knows, he just doesn't want her life to go to waste. Lou thought that she was trying to teach Will how to live and love life, but in reality, it was Will that was trying to make her appreciate her life. About Will's decision, I first felt angry, but then I thought that who are we to decide on behalf of Will ? Clearly, if we put ourselves in his shoes, we'll know how bad it is to live like him, to see everyone around you running, going places, working, and comparing ourselves with those people, it hurts...If it was for me, I would do what will did. About the ending, it didn't break me, because I saw it coming, but I was just hoping for it not to be true. I kinda find it sad that the book showed us that it sucks to be a quadriplegic, what would happen if Will changed his mind and listened to Louisa ? I would love that ending xD

I enjoyed Me Before You a lot -- I definitely got attached to Louisa and Will, and Lou didn't feel like any character I'd read before. My only quibbles were the way Lou was treated by her family, and the chapters told from the perspectives of Will's parents (they didn't do much for me and felt unnecessary).

Absolutely loved it. It was addictive for its ease of language the depth of the characters and the descriptive intimacy that evolved between the main characters. It broke my heart to finish it and as soon as I finished the last chapter I was queuing with my book club to see the movie, you will need Kleenex for this one. A beautiful, raw and very real love story .

Love this movie and book! First time reading a book that almost went line for line with the movie. The one thing I didn’t like was chapter 27. Otherwise, so so good!

I loved this book and I hated this book.

I loved this book until the end. Hated the book when it was over.

The writing was good, the story was heartbreaking. I didn't love all the details, but it was an interesting read.

A girl (who's life is awful) takes a job as a companion to a paraplegic. They hate each other (of course) and then become good friends.

Read: if you are in need of a good cry or a sweet story.
