I read this book many years ago and thought about it several months ago and I had to find a copy.

the sweet nostalgia of a Pixar short- in book form. figuring out who you are and being lonely and first kisses and prep school. with a current of racial awareness and tragedy

This was the first book I remember ever sticking with me when I first started reading around 4th grade, so I needed to reread it. Just as powerful as I remember 20 years ago. The way Woodson writes and creates scenes is still just as remarkable as I remember.

What a gorgeous book. Woodson did an amazing job with these characters. Loved how poetic and dramatic the love felt; this was such a refreshing take on a Romeo and Juliet story. Side note: Jacqueline Woodson is THE best at naming characters.

A little too short for my taste however was an amazing story, very cute and heartrending.
