Did not care for this one at all. In fact, when I tried to return it to Bookman's, where I traded it the first time, they wouldn't take it back!

Really enjoyed this book. I'm gaga over the 17th century time period and found this book so fun to read even from just a syntax perspective. The mystery kept me guessing!

Meh. I could tell 20 pages in that the MC and I would NOT be getting along.
__ Try it! You’ll probably like it (wasn’t for me, but it’s well-written).
_x_ Meh. If you have nothing else to read, try it.
__ Don’t waste your time with this one!

This historical mystery was okay, but the characters felt flat to me. I couldn't really empathize with them. Also the storyline was uneven and unbelievable in places.

Fascinating story, for the historical details alone. I love all of the minor details about life, like using sand to polish the floors, and the courting rituals.
They mystery was so-so. There were very few clues as to the killer. But when I got to the big reveal, I realized that it wasn't that important; the character development and historical setting was what I really cared about. Lucy is a fascinating protagonist, and I'm excited to see her grow.
And, as always, the best thing about a historical novel is when I'm inspired to do more reading. I delved into the Charles I-Cromwell-Charles II timeline and religious interplay of each leader.

This was a guilty pleasure book for me! Not particularly literary, but full of fun and mystery. I like to see a lady detective, even if it is in defiance of historical accuracy...and most things in this books seemed to defy historical accuracy to me! (Though perhaps I'm just not as informed on the modern practices in the 1600s?)

I thoughy this was a great story. I liked the interactions between Lucy and Adam and how they dealt with their feelings. The murders were a great mystery and kept me guessing until the end. The ending was really good and it finished tue book up very nicely.
