Spellbinding, enters your soul and fills your mind with imagery that will linger for a long time. At times, feels like poetry.

This book is the most unique book I've ever read. Allowing yourself to be immersed into the cyclical narrative will reward you 100 times over.
Recommended reading up about Columbia's neo-colonial past and history of civil unrest to get the most out of this novel.

i've lost count of how many times i've read this during high school. for some reason, this book had a hold on me that i couldn't explain and kept reading it over and over, along with [b:The House of the Spirits|9328|The House of the Spirits|Isabel Allende|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1621672028l/9328._SY75_.jpg|3374404].
thinking about it now, i feel like i was so attached to this book because everything in it -every detail, every character, every line-, seemed to have its rightful place and was presented so candidly and matter-of-factly, it put my chaotic and hormonal teenager's mind at ease.

I admit I know next to nothing about Latin American history, so I dived into this book not knowing the multiple references to real historical events. It's very layered and interesting if you look at the studies on the this book after you finish reading, because it gives everything in the book more meaning.

It's a very good book, but for casual readers it might be boring because it's an embellished history lesson. I find history interesting, so this book was alright to me.
