DNF-ed after 150 pages. I started this because it was initially required for my literature class; we ended up not discussing it, so i never got around to finishing it. I have no wish to continue it either, i find the writing style and the overall story boring and I know I won't be able to make it through all the pages with my inner peace and self happiness intact if I keep reading this book.

this is a novel that hit me slowly, almost like a realization. for the first half, i did not understand. i enjoyed it, but i did not *get* it. it's true, it can be hard to follow: it does read almost like a set of short stories all placed together, the characters often share names which can make it difficult to seperate their experiences, and can be a challenge to relate to it when different cultures and practices are expressed. but once you *get* it, it becomes absolutely marvelous. i encourage everyone to read this, and mark the moment when this book becomes clear for you. it is a beautiful feeling.

This story felt somewhat hopeless. I was lost in the story, unsure of where it was going until it simply ended and now I don't know how I feel about it having finished it. It felt like an endless cycle that's doomed to repeat itself without any real hope of moving forward, which was frustrating and depressing. It's just one of those stories I can't figure out and so I will think about it from time to time. Any story that you revisit in your head and gives you pause to think is worthwhile.

A really amazing story focusing jna family's bloodline over a century and howntheir fate is tied their town. A great book about characters my main gripe was the the book often dealt with taboo subjects of incest and predatory relationships that detracted from the overall story.

A very odd book, full of fantastic characters and stories. It's mostly narrative, which isn't my favourite style of writing; it reminded me of Don Quixote, which I couldn't finish because of its style. Also,I thought it could have ended a bit sooner than it did.

It contains some of the most beautiful writing I've ever read, so I definitely recommend it to anyone who appreciates good literature.
