Beautiful book! I just went on this amazing whale-watching eco-tourism tour and learned so much about gray whales and their ecosystem, lives, and dangers. This novel does a beautiful job of presenting the difficult issues these creatures face while still portraying a balanced view of the people who need to hunt for subsistence - but a powerful (though not didactic) denunciation of commercial practices that endanger marine life like these. The photos are gorgeous and the YA novel-style, while a little bit heavy-handed and anthropomorphizing, is charming and emotionally effective. I'd recommend this!
