This book has many deep topics, PTSD, alcoholism, cheating, abandonment and yet the story is a little too simplistic. The relationships go from 0 to 60 without any reason- they are not fully developed. However, in spite of this, I still appreciate where the story is heading. I’m hoping the following books are a bit better developed.

So, this is a book about second chances, forgiveness and love. This isn't just about romance though. This is about 2 women, a military vet and a single mother who were the best of friends growing up. Both had their life upset with actions from others than later another upheaval. One runs and another stays. Both are reunited and fight it but it still works.
Carly is a single mom that has had a difficult past to overcome and still works her butt off to do and be better for her daughter. Michelle is the vet that comes home to heal but is still struggling. Both are hurt and feel like the victim. They both overcome it and face things together. In the process they get their friendship back and they both find 2 great men who love them. Sam and Jared are great guys that show they don't scare easily and want the best for their ladies. This was a good story that was well written.

What is with the mothers in Susan Mallery books? They are all awful! But the pets are consistently a positive part of the plot. Does a good dog make up for a terrible mother?
In a time when I’m too busy to concentrate, the blackberry island books are making me happy!

Drifts too far from reality in places and the math doesn't add up. Takes more suspension of belief than usual and there is a lot of repetition, especially in the beginning.

Easy light read
Predictable light story. Very entertaining. Easy quick read
Captures a romantic heart and slight humor. Chick flick like - good light summer reading.

I am usually a huge Susan Malelry fan. However I could not get into this book. I did finish it, I just didn't connect with the characters.
