I really wanted to love this because for the most part I love everything Claudio Sanchez puts his hands on, but this fell flat to me for a couple of different reasons.
First, the formatting of the ebook (which was the only edition that I could find that didn't cost $500 (an exaggeration)). The formatting was strange and distracting which made it hard to get through.
On top of that, the writing itself was just...not very good. I didn't connect with it and sometimes the dialogue felt strange.
Luckily, this is just an expansion on information that we already know from the graphic novels, so it is not imperative that you read this.

I certainly did not expect to have a copy of this prequel to the whole [b:The Amory Wars|9086801|The Amory Wars|Books LLC|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1381743094s/9086801.jpg|13965079] series. It delivered great storytelling, bringing us back to the hits of Coheed & Cambria. Now, time to read the graphic novels that follow.

For anyone who loves Coheed and Cambria, this book will forever change how you listen to their music. Whether you like it because it gives you a depth to characters you've never really known well before or you hate that it gives away too much, be warned that it will give you a different view of the music.
That being said, I completely love what I get out of this book as a die hard Coheed and Cambria fan. The book lends so much to the musical medium that you simply cannot get with other music. Claudio's story is very entertaining and it is really great getting inside his head and inside what he is telling in his music. The book allows you to really understand the characters and how they are connected and it gives a more emotional response than you get from the story through song.
I read this book in about a day or two because I was so drawn in to the story and its connection to music I have held so dear for so long. Although this book is specifically about the songs from the album Year of the Black Rainbow, the insights from this book affects all Coheed and Cambria songs.
Despite it not being one of the best written books I've read, I still loved it for the story and the even stronger connection it gives me to the music.

The prose is pretty bad at times and this probably would have been better served as a graphic novel but still a solid read that fleshes out the corresponding Coheed album. Looking forward to checking out the comics.
