The premise is pretty interesting. Persephone becomes mortal, living in New York with no memories of her past. But, one day, f*cking Zeus kidnapped her and forced her to compete in a series of deadly trials for the position of Queen of the Underworld to become Hades’s wife, Again!? And Hades, with his smoky appearance and roller-coaster  emotions, was no help at all.

I read it with an expectation that I would read a SMUT. (The book's cover is a hot man with six-packs wearing a latex collar, goddammit!) But the book gives me an action instead. Where’s the romance!? Where’s my SMUT!?

Hah, but, tbf, the trials were quite entertaining to read. And this is the first book of the trilogy. Maybe the romance and the spice will kick in in the second and third books. Let see...

That's a weak 3-star rating.
Persephone is a poor narrator and a barely likable character: she keeps talking about how she can't wait to be back in NY yet does very little to try to get back and takes everything happening to her in stride very quickly. We barely see anything of Hades, they barely interact.
The plot/story has promise but I don't think it's been executed very well. The writing is simplistic and at times it isn't enough to fully pull you in.

It wasn't what I expected. I thought it would be a normal HadesxPersephone retelling with a lot of romance but it was mostly focused on the trials and there were very few interactios between Hades and Persephone. There was definitely a spark between them and I do know that it's a slowburn so I'm hoping we'll see more of them in the next books. That being said i enjoyed the book and really want to see what happens next.
